Falesti district is located in the northwestern part of the Republic of Moldova, near the border with Romania, and approximately 30 km from the municipality of Balti—the main economic and cultural hub of the northern region. The district includes 76 localities and has a population of 61 988. The average gross monthly salary is 8 681 MDL.
Falesti benefits from well-developed road connections and convenient logistical access, supported by its proximity to Marculesti International Airport. It also has direct access to the European Union via the Sculeni border crossing, located just 33 km away. Key distances to major connection points include: approximately 57 km to Iași, 290 km to both the Giurgiulesti International Port and the Port of Odesa, and 111 km to Chisinau.
The district’s economy is in the process of diversification, with a growing focus on industry, agriculture, and services. Falesti hosts a subzone of the Balti Free Economic Zone, with a total area of 1.5 hectares, primarily designated for industrial activities. Several important companies operate within the district, including Protos, a manufacturer of pipes, and Marthatex, a foreign-owned enterprise specializing in the production of leather garments.
