In the last decade, Smart Data — founded by two young technology enthusiasts — has reached the top 50 IT companies in the Republic of Moldova. In 2025, the company is expanding its development directions by participating in the TechStep Sweden program, a joint initiative of Invest Moldova Agency, Open Trade Gate Sweden, Moldova IT Park and the National Board of Trade Sweden, which connects local companies with the Nordic technology market.
Smart Data, founded in 2013, is one of the 10 selected enterprises. The company specializes in full-stack software development for governments, corporations, and start-ups: websites, mobile applications, IoT solutions, machine learning, UX/UI, and DevOps.
The company’s portfolio includes international clients such as Beetroot AB (Sweden), GetHeli (United Kingdom), New Harbinger Publications (USA), Liftngo (Canada), and ANNEA.ai (Germany), along with local companies such as Efes Vitanta Moldova, Moldovagaz and Air Moldova — active in industries like IT, fintech, energy, aviation, and publishing.
“For Smart Data, TechStep provides clarity in our commercial positioning on the Swedish market and the opportunity to quickly demonstrate the value of our solutions to potential clients. Combining know-how with thematic meetings accelerates the adoption of innovative solutions and supports the scaling of our offering,” says Andrei Martinenco, CEO and founder Smart Data.

Immediate benefits and long-term results
Launched in January 2025, TechStep Sweden provides Moldovan IT companies with access to Sweden’s tech ecosystem and to events such as TechArena, Stockholm Tech Show, and Epicenter Stockholm. The program includes practical training, consulting, logistical assistance, and operational support provided by Invest Moldova Agency, which facilitates connections between Moldovan companies and Swedish partners.
Smart Data has set clear objectives for the upcoming period: organizing 25 discovery-type meetings by June 2026 and signing a strategic contract by the end of the year.
“We benefit from hands-on training, visibility at major events, and opportunities for product validation. In the long term, we aim to develop a functional export plan, expand our network to 100 relevant contacts, and sign significant contracts on the Swedish market,” adds Andrei Martinenco.
Accelerated growth of Moldova’s IT sector
According to the new 2025 National Export Offer, Moldova records one of the fastest-growing IT export rates in Eastern Europe, with over 20% annual growth, while Moldova IT Park offers a competitive fiscal regime with a single 7% tax on revenue.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, IT service exports exceeded 700 million dollars in 2025, up 15% compared to the previous year. Over 90% of IT services produced in Moldova are exported, and in the last 10 years, the volume has increased elevenfold.
