Drochia district is located in the northern part of the Republic of Moldova and comprises 40 localities. It has a population of 56 747 inhabitants and an average gross monthly salary of 9 278 MDL. The district’s geographic position provides efficient commercial connections both nationally and internationally. Drochia is located approximately 121 km from the city of Iasi, offering convenient access to the European Union market. It is also situated around 353 km from the Giurgiulesti International Port and 339 km from the Port of Odesa.
Drochia’s economy is primarily agriculture-based, with key crops including sugar beet or corn. The local manufacturing sector plays an important role in the district’s development, encompassing sugar production, furniture manufacturing, packaging, and machinery. The economic structure is further supported by the trade and services sector, with a portion of local production oriented toward export. Just 5 km from Drochia city, in the village of Țarigrad, the Bioenergagro Industrial Park has been established. This open industrial platform spans 13.49 hectares and is equipped with basic infrastructure and facilities, offering opportunities for future expansion.
One of Moldova’s leading companies in the food industry, Südzucker Moldova, operates in Drochia. This Moldovan-German joint venture owns the country’s largest sugar factory, located in Drochia city. The company plays a crucial role in the local economy and is a national leader in its sector.
