Calarasi district is strategically located in the center of the Republic of Moldova, only 55 km from Chisinau, comprising 44 localities, a population of approximately 43 864 inhabitants, and an average gross salary of 9 345 lei. The district benefits from rapid connection to the Leuseni customs point – the border with Romania – located 78 km away, as well as easy access to Iasi municipality (97 km) and Odesa port (263 km), thus having efficient commercial links both at regional and international levels.
On the district's territory is located the Tuzara subzone, part of the Free Economic Zone "Ungheni-Business". It has an available area of 32.27 hectares and is directly connected to the E58 international road, as well as to the Chisinau–Iasi railway line, facilitating industrial development and attracting investments.
The economy of Calaraai district is supported by key industries such as food industry, textile industry, construction and materials processing, or cattle breeding. Among the most important companies in the region are: "Călărași Divin" SA - a traditional producer of divin and brandy; "Palplast" SRL - specialized in manufacturing PVC products; "Lapmol" - active in the dairy sector; Instacon - clothing manufacturer; Garma Grup – focused on pasta production, ethyl alcohol, as well as cattle breeding. These companies contribute significantly to the district's economic dynamism and to creating stable jobs.
