Soroca district is located in the northeastern part of the Republic of Moldova, approximately 160 km from the capital, Chișinău. The district includes 68 localities and has a population of around 59 695. The average gross monthly salary is 9 014 MDL.

Soroca’s geographic position ensures easy access to international markets, with the Otaci border crossing (on the Ukrainian border) just 55 km away. Key distances to major logistical points include: 155 km to Chisinau, 164 km to Iasi (Romania), 375 km to the Giurgiulesti International Port, and 353 km to the Port of Odesa.

The local economy is defined by a combination of industrial, agri-food, and natural resource-based activities, supported by existing economic infrastructure. The district hosts two subzones of the "Ungheni-Business" Free Economic Zone, covering over 20 hectares. Soroca also holds important mineral resources for the construction sector, including sand, gravel, and clay deposits—used primarily at the local level. Additionally, the region has valuable hydrogeological potential, with high-quality underground water sources and natural springs, offering opportunities for development in areas such as food production, tourism, and bottled water industries.

Several nationally recognized companies operate in Soroca District. The Soroca Cheese Factory is one of the largest dairy processors in Moldova. Also noteworthy is Alfa-Nistru JSC, a renowned producer specializing in fruit and vegetable processing, canned goods, and natural juices, with a strong presence in both local and international markets.
