Cantemir district is located in southwestern Moldova, on the border with Romania, along the Prut River. It comprises 51 localities and has a population of approximately 33 181 inhabitants. The average gross salary in the region is 9 047 lei.
The economy of Cantemir District has a predominantly agricultural profile. The main agricultural sectors include: cereal cultivation (sunflower seeds and legumes), winemaking, as well as livestock farming.
The district's geographical position is favorable for economic and commercial activities, being located approximately 121 km from Chișinău. The Giurgiulești Free International Port, situated just 99 km away, provides rapid access to river and maritime transport networks, facilitating exports and commercial exchanges. The distance to Iași city is about 232 km, while to Odesa Port it is approximately 347 km.
