On June 18, the Director of the Investment Agency, Rodica VERBENIUC, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Moldova, Yoshihiro KATAYAMA, who expressed his appreciation for the Agency's work, especially in the COVID-19 pandemic times.
The meeting aimed to identify collaboration opportunities and strengthen economic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Japan, the both sides evolving the potential of Moldovan-Japanese cooperation as much greater than now. On this note, the further development of bilateral seminar and webinar platforms was reiterated.
The meeting addressed Japan's multidimensional support for the Republic of Moldova, including the generous support of the Government of Japan through which the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women) has implemented a number of initiatives to support women and girls facing difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as agricultural loan and grant agreements. The meeting underlined the importance of Japanese companies and their investments on the Moldovan market.
At the same time, the parties discussed the possibility of generating tourist flows from Japan through the creation of regional cross-border programs that would include the Republic of Moldova, since there is no direct connection between the 2 countries.
