The Republic of Moldova exportes agri-food products, to over 70 countries around the world, and could expand much more into the Italian markets and stores. During an webinar, members of the General Confederation of Agriculture in Italy were presented with investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova, but also the benefits of investing in the agricultural sector, as our country has fertile lands, a strategic geographicalposition and favorable climate .
The webinar was held in an online format, and linked together over 90 Italian entrepreneurs and investors, members of the General Confederation of Agriculture in Italy (Confagricoltura), where they found out new agriculture investment opportunities in our country, especially in the fruit and vegetables sector, oil plants and seeds, cereals, sugar production, animal husbandry, viticulture and ECO products.
During the webinar, Rodica Verbeniuc, General Director of the Investment Agency,talked to the members of the Confagricultura Association about the quality of Moldovan products and the Republic of Moldova's success in terms of wine exports.
Rodica Verbeniuc, General Director of the Investment Agency: "Nowadays, when information technology sector does not rank in the international charts but exceeded for the first time the wines export , with over 400 million lei, can bring innovation and revolutionary infrastructure in national agriculture.The Chisinau authorities are making all necessary efforts to bring this sector closer to the modernization process, but also to capitalize on the eco product as much as possible in Europe. Farmers are trying to move to the modern orchards technique, using agricultural drones, fertigation systems,and unique systems based on French technologies (Drapeau Marchand), for forming the skeleton of the tree. "
The director of the Investment Agency also referred to the global export tops, where the Republic of Moldova ranked first in the world by the volume of apples exported per capita. Currently the most exported agricultural products in Italy are wheat, corn, sunflower seed oil, nuts, plums, fresh fighting wines, fruits and honey. Thus, in 2018, 40.3% of the total Moldovan food exports was oriented to the Italian market.
The Ambassador of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Moldova, Lorenzo Tomassoni also attended the event, and said that he would be happy to see Italian products in the Republic of Moldova's stores and markets , and vice versa, for our products to be exported to Italy.
The President of the General Confederation of Agriculture of Italy (Confragricoltura), Massimiliano Giansanti, expressed his interest in the investment offer of the Republic of Moldova stating that he wants to visit the Republic of Moldova as soon as possible to directly understand the potential and collaboration possibilities between the two countries.
The latest statistics point that Italy is the 2nd largest trading partner of the Republic of Moldova in 2018-2019, during 2014-2018 it registered an increase of 7% in exports ($ 309.6 million), and in 2018 it set a record, compared to $ 243.4 million in 2014. Despite these changes, Moldova does not rank in the Top 70 import partners of Italy, being the 77th.
