Moldova’s urban transport sector enters a new stage of development with today’s official launch of Bolt, one of Europe’s largest mobility companies. Starting in early September 2025, residents and visitors of the capital can order a taxi directly through the app at competitive rates, in a fully digital environment.
A Safe and Efficient App-Based Solution
Bolt introduces to the Republic of Moldova its core service—ride-hailing—allowing passengers to request a car within seconds and choose their preferred route. Each vehicle is dedicated to a single client, ensuring a predictable, comfortable and safe transport experience.
A key feature of the service is the integrated electronic payment option directly in the app. While card payments are becoming more common locally, this functionality offers an extra layer of transparency and convenience, benefiting both passengers and drivers.

About Bolt
Bolt is a global mobility platform operating in over 600 cities across 50 countries, providing ride-hailing, electric scooter and e-bike rentals, food delivery and car-sharing services. Present in Moldova since 2021 with its electric scooter service, the company now expands its portfolio with the launch of its taxi operations.
Launch and Integration
The rollout of Bolt Taxi in the Republic of Moldova took approximately one year and required fiscal and technical adjustments, as well as coordination with local authorities to obtain all necessary permits. This complex process ensured full compliance with national legislation and the implementation of Bolt’s international quality and safety standards.
“The launch of Bolt’s ride-hailing service in the Republic of Moldova marks an important step both for our company and for the local community. Our goal is to offer people a safe, fast and affordable urban transport alternative that meets the needs of a modern society. Bolt aims to become a trusted partner for the local community and to deliver innovative mobility solutions adapted to Moldova’s realities,”
Sorin Chiriac, CEO Bolt Moldova.
High Safety Standards
Bolt continuously invests in new products and features to enhance the travel experience. Key functionalities include:
- Optimized routes that save time and money for both drivers and passengers;
- In-app calls and messages for quick communication regarding pick-up points;
- Profanity filter in chat to ensure secure communication;
- Trip details and vehicle information displayed in the app;
- Profile photo option for easier identification.
Bolt’s safety strategy is built around three pillars: preventing incidents before the ride, monitoring during the trip and providing assistance afterwards. Measures include real-time driver identity verification via selfie, passenger ratings, live location sharing, 24/7 emergency support and the possibility to add trusted contacts.
“The launch of Bolt in Moldova is not only about a modern digital service but also about placing our country firmly on the global mobility map. Residents, investors and international visitors alike can now use the same global app to order a local taxi. This is a significant step forward for user convenience and for the Republic of Moldova’s image as a connected destination aligned with global standards,”
Natalia Bejan, Director of the Invest Moldova Agency.
Economic and Market Impact
The arrival of Bolt Taxi will have a strong positive effect on the local economy and labour market. By collaborating exclusively with licensed taxi companies, the digital platform creates new growth opportunities for traditional operators, helping them attract more customers and streamline their operations. The service supports the development of the transport sector and generates financial opportunities for drivers, licensed taxi operators and support staff within partner companies.The launch was made possible through close cooperation with the relevant authorities, including technical consultations with MDED, SFS and CTIF to integrate the ECC Modular system. Invest Moldova Agency accelerated the process by providing institutional support and coordinating the legislative and operational preparation phase.
