Twenty-eight years ago, a farming family set out to offer consumers natural, wholesome products. What began as a small local business gradually evolved into a company recognized for quality and its openness to international markets.
“Founded in 1997, Axedum started with chicken meat products and later expanded into eggs, canned foods, and ready-to-eat products—always guided by core values: animal care, responsibility toward consumers, and a commitment to offering fresh, safe, and flavorful products,” says Dumitrița Cojocaru, Axedum’s Executive Director.
Today, the company stands as a success story of a family business that has grown sustainably through product quality and a clear vision for international expansion. In June 2024, Axedum became the first Moldovan producer authorized to export chicken meat to the European Union.
Over the years, the company has continuously invested in modern technologies and in building a skilled professional team. “One of our biggest challenges has been balancing respect for local traditions with the increasingly demanding requirements of international markets,” adds Cojocaru.
Quality Standards That Define Every Product
“For Axedum, a high-quality product means responsibility toward consumers, respect for nature, and a commitment to elevated production standards. Quality starts at the bird-rearing stage. Our farms follow strict welfare rules, and the feed is carefully selected—free from harmful additives, antibiotics, or growth hormones. The eggs produced have a balanced nutritional profile and retain the authentic taste of natural products,” Cojocaru explains.
Every stage of the process is closely monitored—from chick selection and feed quality to packaging and delivery. Digitalization and investments in modern equipment ensure precise control over temperature and humidity, reducing the risk of human error.
Expanding to International Markets
To support local producers seeking to enter foreign markets, Invest Moldova Agency regularly organizes export promotion missions. More than 200 companies across sectors—from agri-food to winemaking and IT—have taken part, establishing new partnerships along the way.
Axedum participated in two export missions—Düsseldorf (4–6 November 2025) and Bucharest in 2024. The company also exhibited at ANUGA 2025, one of the world’s leading food industry trade fairs, co-financed by Invest Moldova Agency.
“Participation increased the company’s visibility and helped identify new commercial partners, expand our client portfolio, and better understand the requirements of international markets,” Cojocaru notes.
In the medium and long term, Axedum aims to strengthen existing partnerships and access new markets in the European Union, the Middle East, and Central Asia while maintaining the same high-quality standards.
In April 2025, the company became a beneficiary of a state aid program dedicated to strategic investments. The total value of the project is 180 million MDL, of which the state will contribute 90 million MDL—representing 50% of the investment.
“Public–private partnership is essential for promoting Moldovan products abroad, and Axedum’s experience shows that when the state and the business community work together, results follow quickly and sustainably,” adds Dumitrița Cojocaru.
Significant growth has been recorded in the trade of poultry products. In the first half of 2025, the Republic of Moldova exported nearly 11 million table eggs to the European Union—a notable increase following the country’s 2023 authorization to export to the EU market.
The agri-food sector remains a driving force of Moldovan exports, adapting to the needs of international markets. Axedum’s success demonstrates that investment in quality and collaboration with local producers can generate sustainable growth. This material is part of the campaign “From Moldova.
