Representatives of over 27 large Turkey companies from different sectors such as agrifood, real estate, car construction, and others, are currently on a business visit to Chisinau. In this context the Investment Agency organized a bilateral forum where it presented the investment offer of the Republic of Moldova to Turkish companies, in order to strengthen the partnership relations between these two countries. The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Agriculture, Minestry of Regional Development and Environment.
The forum presented the business opportunities portfolio, but also discussed the investment climate of the Republic of Moldova. Subsequently, Turkey's group of companies was invited to study visits to local companies and free economic zones to better know the benefits our country offers
Statistics show that an upward trend in investment flows from Turkish partners has been observed over the past six years. Turkish companies have developed a range of successful businesses, in food industry, mobile telephony, medicine and the hotel industry. Currently, 1188 Turkish capital enterprises operate in the Republic of Moldova, the investments in the share capital amounting to 985.470 million lei.
“Turkey is one of the strategic partners of the Republic of Moldova, ranking 7th among the main investment partners of Moldova, by the value of the invested capital, a result which underlines both countries' efforts to respect the Moldovan-Turkish free Trade Agreement that came into force in 2016. We do not want to stop here, the both states have great potential. This is why the Investment Agency stimulates trade promotion, foreign investment attraction and facilitating technology transfer, cooperation development with Turkish business organizations, and attracting new investors." said Igor Stefanet, Head of Department Attracting and Protecting Investments
Besides Turkey external assistance provided for the development of the Republic of Moldova, which has so far amounted to 33 million US dollars, the country ranks 5th among the main trading partners of the Republic of Moldova worldwide, with a share of 8.11% in total trade.
Thus, during the forum the parties confirmed their intention to establish an export contract for products such as sunflower and cereals between Moldova and Turkey. Currently, the main products exported by the Republic of Moldova to Turkey are sunflower seeds, corn and textiles. When the relevant contract is signed, the sunflower seeds and cereals exports level will increase considerably.
The foreign trade volume of the Republic of Moldova with the Republic of Turkey, in January-March 2021 amounted USD 183.765 million.
